Wadeye, one of the largest and most remote communities in Australia, relies heavily on safe public infrastructure. After sitting empty and neglected for five years in the harsh Top End climate, the community’s swimming pool was refurbished and reopened in November 2023.
Originally installed in 2003 using Myrtha Technology, the pool features an L-shaped 25-metre design with beach entry and lap swimming areas. Despite two decades of use, the Myrtha walls remained structurally sound, enabling the pool to be brought back to life within just three weeks.
The refurbishment included an Australian-first installation of Myrtha Skin, a robust and durable solution delivered by Blueprint Aquatics.
Aquatic Project Solutions (APS), in collaboration with Blueprint Aquatics, delivered:
The reopening of the Wadeye pool is a game-changer for the community, providing a safe alternative to rivers and streams often inhabited by saltwater crocodiles. Beyond recreation, it brings long-term social and health benefits, including improved water safety, physical activity, employment opportunities, and overall community well-being.
This project demonstrates how a swimming pool can be far more than a place to exercise – it can be a cornerstone of community safety, resilience, and social life.
