Following Cyclone Debbie in 2017, Hayman Island Swimming Pool and Pool Water Treatment Plant required major refurbishment works. The main resort pool measures over 7,000m2 and contains over 6.5 Million Litres of water. It is the largest Swimming Pool in the Southern Hemisphere and 9th largest Pool in the World. APS were hand-picked to undertake the vast renovations to the Swimming Pool and PWT Plant.
An ELBE reinforced PVC liner was installed to the entire Swimming Pool to provide an exclusive finish with a 15 year water tightness warranty. A special non woven polyester fleece was installed underneath the liner to provide the ultimate cosmetic finish to Australia’s most iconic Swimming Pool. Over 500lm of custom manufactured sandstone pieces were laid the newly modified steps and ledges.

The PWT Plant Room was then re-painted, and a newly engineered and manufactured gantry system was installed to aid the installation and placement of the new plant equipment. Due to exceeding the client’s expectations in regard to timeframe and quality, APS were engaged to undertake extensive renovation works to the Island’s Dive Pool and Landscaped Areas around the Hotel. The Dive Pool was drained & high pressure water blasted to remove existing paint. The concrete Pool shell required concrete cancer and render repairs which were completed prior to prepping and re-painting the pool in Luxapool Chlorinated Rubber Pool Paint. Over 9,500m2 of sandstone paving was wet laid around pool and resort. The main entrance lobby pond was repaired and made ready for re-opening of the hotel.
This project was expertly Project Managed by the APS Project Management Team. The logistical planning and scheduling of resources involved to carry out such large scale renovation in such a remote location with difficult and limited access, is testament to the APS Team.
The high quality work of the expert tradesmen who participated in this project ensured a final finish pertinent to Australia’s most exclusive and luxurious Resort.
The project was completed on time and on budget and the Hotel has now reopened to guests with the incredible Swimming Pool Refurbishment a key marketing element for the operators.
